Public Movement Multinational Georgia (PMMG) Addresses the Political Crisis Evolved in the Country

PMMG is concerned with the latest developments evolving in the country.

 Organization condemns and distances itself form the conduct of political process with the application to forcible means. Unfortunately, the developments take place on the ground of mounting polarization in the society which has encompassed political spectrum as well as civil society sector and the media. The situation is further exacerbated with the removal of the political process from the legislative organ to the street.

 It is alarming, that neither side has found the resources to discharge the severe political crisis. PMMG reminds all the sides, that they hold the consolidated responsibility to secure civic peace, country’s stable development and the realization of its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

 The role of the state authorities is enormous in order to find the compromising and legal ways out of the impasse of the persisting political crisis. Such role implies the addressing the interests of both the state and each individual despite the presence of their diverse views and the forms of expression of the political aspirations.

 It is evident, that polarization of society and acute political crisis will lead to the formation of gloomy perspectives pertaining the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration being its decisive choice. This is particularly disappointing given the mounting social, economic and geopolitical challenges faced by the country.

 The persisting confrontational environment can jeopardize the perspective of country’s democratic development. Moreover, the concerns raised by the country’s international partners can expose the perspective of its international support under the risk.

 In view of the above, PMMG calls on:

 All the sides to refrain from the conduct of the political process with the application of forcible forms and return to the dialogue format in order to avoid further escalation of the situation;

 State authorities to secure the protection of the freedom of speech and expression as well as stay within the legal frames while delivering the response to the challenges.
